RAJASTHAN UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) was established under the Act of State Government The Rajasthan University of Health Sciences Act, 2005 (Act No. 1 of 2005) on February 25, 2005. The emblem of the university is circular and made up of elements in yellow, orange and red shades. At its centre is the map of Rajasthan State with a staff encircled with a pair of serpents and wings symbolising Greek and Roman Gods of health called Hermes and Mercury adapted as a symbol of modern medical science along with the year of its establishment ‘2006 A.D’. The map is encircled by a pair of twigs of leaves which in Western philosophy symbolises Olive branches which is an expression of peace, love and harmony. Indian philosophy depicts the vanaspathi (also called aushadhi) held in the hands of Dhanvantri (God of Indian medicine), which is the source of all medicines. At the top of the emblem is the motto of the University ‘स्वात्स्य सेवा - राष्ट्र सेवा’ which means ‘Serving for Health is Serving the Nation’. The motto of the University stresses 'प्राणिनाम्  आर्तिनाशनम्’ which means ‘Eradication of Sorrows of Suffering Living Beings’. It has been taken from the Sanskrit shlok of ‘Bhāgavata’ which inspires every person who comes to the medical field to serve humanity.
