KARNATAKA STATE AKKAMAHADEVI WOMEN’S UNIVERSITY

Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women's University (KSAWU) formerly known as Karnataka State Women's University, established in 2003 in the city of Vijayapura (Formerly Bijapur), is the only women's university in Karnataka dedicated exclusively for women's education. The emblem of the university in purple and green colours has a pair of hands of a lady holding a traditional lamp, flanked by the silhouette images of domed structures below a woman holding a pen on her right hand and a book on her left hand. These motifs have a border of seventeen big trees and eighteen smaller trees in green and above it the name of the university is written in Kannada. At the bottom, on a banner the name of the university is written in English. The woman with a pen and book symbolises women’s emancipation through higher education; the traditional lamp signifies symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the trees symbolise strength, nurturing, social benefits and community and the building structures are the connotations of the aspirations of the women to occupy higher echelons in society.
