This is ensconced by a white circular border with blue outlines on which the name and place of the university is inscribed. Below the circular seal on a white banner its motto in Sanskrit ‘अत्त दीपो भव’ meaning ‘Be Your Own Lamp’ is inscribed. The torch held by multiple hands symbolises eternity, collectivism and growth and the open book symbolises education, knowledge, learning and wisdom.

MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL URDU UNIVERSITY Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament in 1998. The logo of the university has two strokes of orange and green forming the shape of ‘U’ in tricolour and has a ‘Ashoka Chakra’ at its top. The circular emblem of the university has an open book supporting a lotus with a background of mountains and surmounted by atomic structure. The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’.
