The circular emblem of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAU) has a hand holding a torch with flame supported by an open book and a pair of laurels with a backdrop of water. The circle holding these motifs are ensconced by a green border, on which its name and motto in Sanskrit ‘धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्’ (Sage Vishwamitra, Mandala 3.12.60, Gayatri Mantra, Rig Veda) meaning ‘May He Enlighten Our Intellect’ are inscribed. The torch with flame an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; the laurels denote ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the open book represents learning, knowledge, education and wisdom; the wavy water represents growth, renewal and transformation and the colour green symbolises agriculture, nature, growth, balance, harmony, environment, prosperity, vitality, prestige, wealth and being very down to earth.
