The circular emblem of Indira Gandhi University, Rewari (IGU) has a thick orange border houses a number of motifs and a supporting orange banner. The tagline in Sanskrit ‘सत्यमेव जयते’ meaning ‘Truth Alone Triumphs’ inspires one to follow the path of truth. The rays of the sun indicate that the light of knowledge destroys the darkness spread around us. The torchlight at the centre of the logo is symbolic of the fact that we can light the dark paths of ignorance with the torch of knowledge and move towards success and fulfilment. The Ashok Chakra in the logo conveys the fullness of life through following the precepts of perennial principles of life in different circumstances. The book and the sloka ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ build a sense of conviction that knowledge has the power to drag us out of ignorance. The flower petals in the outer circle remind us of our duty towards nature and inspire us to live in harmony with nature. The wheat spikes signify the importance of grains. The saffron colour in the logo exhibits the feelings of sacrifice and compromise. The banner carries the motto in Sanskrit ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ (Rishi Parāśara, 1,19.41, Viṣṇu Purāṇa) meaning ‘Knowledge is one that Liberates’ demonstrates that the truth that learning ultimately frees one from ignorance.
