The insignia of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) has a green pentagon with multi-pointed star housing its name and place; a circle with abstract motifs of a scenery with a tree, sun, sky, clouds, meadow and earth. Below the star the motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘ज्ञानं विज्ञान सहितम्’ meaning ‘Knowledge with Science’ is written. The pentagon denotes the interconnectedness of all things in the universe and the five elements of earth, air, fire, water, and spirit; the colour green represents agriculture, nature, growth, balance, harmony, environment, prosperity, vitality, prestige, wealth and being very down to earth; the scenery is that of the visualisation of bright and prosperous future of the students of the university; the multi-pointed star means perfect harmony among all things in life, with its points providing insight into how we can strive towards achieving this goal.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
