The emblem of Government Degree College, Ramnagar (GDC Ramnagar) features a glowing traditional lamp supported by an open book, surmounted by a blue circular banner inscribed with the name and place of the college and supported by a yellow banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’. Below these, the year of establishment of the college is written on a red plaque. The lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; and the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom.
