The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B), a deemed to be University, was established in 1998. The emblem of the institute in blue and grey has its acronym written is bold lowercase sans serif font with less x-height with a globe above the three ‘i’s to look like a human and below that its motto in Sanskrit ‘ज्ञानमुत्तमम्’(Verse 1, Chapter 14, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Supreme Knowledge' in grey. The globe signifies education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness; the colour blue symbolises serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty and the colour grey symbolises strength, longevity, unemotional, detached, balanced and impartial, power, influence, wisdom and intelligence.

These are ensconced by a circular border, which carries its name and place. At the bottom on a bunch of palm leaf manuscripts its motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया अमृतमश्नुते’ (Verse 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Knowledge Enjoys Immortality’ is inscribed. The charkha or spinning wheel, is a symbol of self-sufficiency, freedom and resilience.
