The Central Universities Act 2009 (No. 25 of 2009) which received Presidential assent on March 20, 2009 provided for the establishment of Central University of Himachal Pradesh amongst others. The University became functional with the assumption of charge by the first Vice Chancellor on January 20, 2010. The logo of the University is a unique combination of the typography and the visual approach enlightening the identity. It reflects the ambition of the university in the field of education, empowerment and environment. The three colours (i.e., yellow, green and cyan) used in the university logo are symbolised as: blue: education and empowerment; green: growth and environment and orange: development. The instantaneous view of the logo in itself reveals the scenic natural beauty of Himachal Pradesh such as rising mountains and rising bright sun. It is in the shape of CUHP. Its motto in sanskrit is ‘नेति नेति चरैवेति चरैवेति’ meaning 'One Must Strive Continuously and Tirelessly for Progress and Development'.
