VANITA VISHRAM WOMEN’S UNIVERSITY

Vanita Vishram Women’s University (VVWU) is the first private women’s university of Gujarat approved by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat in 2009. It was established in 1907 by Shri Atmaram Pandurang Turkhud. Its emblem is in the form of a silhouetted in woman with a mortarboard hat in brown colour forming the background with its tagline on the face in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ meaning ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’; an open book with a base supporting a flame and rising sun with rays, which are supported by a pair of laurels on sides and its motto in Sanskrit ‘सा विध्या या विमुक्तये' meaning ‘That is Knowledge, which Liberates’ at the bottom. Below all these, its name and place are written. Mortarboard meant for graduates, means the graduation of students in their chosen subjects; sun is a symbol of life, warmth, growth, and energy; an open book denotes knowledge and wisdom; the flame denotes light, illumination, awakening, purity, guidance, hope and prosperity and the laurels denote victory, accomplishment, honour, recognition, immortality, peace and harmony. The colour brown represents earthiness, simplicity, stability, humility, warmth, reliability, endurance, timelessness and tradition, which goes well with the brand of the university which it has cultivated over decades.
