Usha Martin University was set up in 2012 vide Usha Martin University, Jharkhand Act 2012. The logo of the university in blue and orange is a monogram of its acronym ‘UMU’ supported by its name written below using sans serif font. The vortex of the ascenders are crested by a square, circle and nabla (inverted triangle). The square denotes stability, fixed nature of matter, strong foundations and order; the circle denotes unity, infinity, without beginning or end, perfectness and the nabla denotes femininity, spirituality, water and rebirth. The colour blue represents serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty and the colour orange is associated with enthusiasm, energy and vitality.

The circular emblem of this university has a gear wheel with sixteen teeth holding the motif of a decorative column standing on a lotus pedestal and supported on either side by scroll designs.
