Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS) is an institute of higher education located in Pallavaram, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. It was established in 1992 and granted Deemed University status in 2008. Its emblem in cyan and blue has a shield with its name written on the top and motifs of a computer, an open book, a cross with a fisted hand and a satellite antenna below that. The shield is supported by a banner written on, with its motto ‘Knowledge is Power’ Shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; computer signifies being part of the information revolution; an open book denotes knowledge and wisdom; a cross denotes sacrifice and suffering and a fisted had within it denotes strength, power, unity, solidarity and rights achieved through sacrifice and a satellite denotes universal connectedness and brotherhood. The colour blue represents serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty. Overall, the logo aptly represents what the university strives for.

PARAVANI The Paravani, Mayil, Mayura or the peacock is the vahana or vehicle of the Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves. The demon sought forgiveness from the Lord and transformed the halves into Mayil or peacock and a rooster. KAVIKULAGURU KALIDAS SANSKRIT UNIVERSITY Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (KKSU) was established on September 18, 1997. It is named to pay rich tribute to legendary Sanskrit Mahakavi Kalidas. The logo of university has the ‘samai’ that is the lamp in the centre symbolising that Sanskrit is like the lamp that is mild yet powerfully showing the path of knowledge though its peculiar qualities like calmness, sacredness and guiding force.
