The Utkal Grameen Bank (UGB) operates in seventeen districts of Western and Southern Orissa viz. Bolangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Nabarangpur districts covering fifty seven percent of the total districts and sixty three percent of the geographical area and forty eight percent of the total population of the State as per 2001 census. The bank has an interesting emblem in green and orange. The central motif is a gear wheel in orange with its acronym in the centre placed inside the roof and floor of a house. These are ensconced by a semi circle filled with three columns of stem of paddy and the other half of the circle is treated as a gear wheel. Gear wheel denotes interconnectedness; efficiency and precision; progress and advancement; synchronisation and timing and order and structure, which the bank strives for. Green is the colour of life, agriculture and village and the crown of paddy denotes agriculture, harvest and food safety.
