Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology (VTRSIST), formerly known as Vel Tech Dr. RR & Dr. SR University and commonly referred to as Vel Tech, is a private institute located in Avadi, Chennai, Tamilnadu.Vel Tech was established in 1997. The circular emblem with red border with its name and year of establishment holds a red and blue shield and the motifs of Islam, Parsi, Buddhist, Christianity and Hindu religious symbols. The top red band of the shield has an open book and a (spear) ‘Vel’ of Lord Murugan and the bottom blue portion bears the silhouetted portrait of both the founders. The religious icons pronounce the institution's secular credentials; the shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the computer signifies being part of the information revolution and open book denotes knowledge and wisdom. In Hindu literature and epics, Lord Murugan, also known as Kartikeya or Skanda, is a popular deity associated with valour, wisdom and victory. The ‘Vel’ is an important symbol often associated with Lord Murugan, particularly in Tamil Nadu, South India. It represents divine power, victory, removal of ego, wisdom, knowledge and divine protection. The colour red symbolises passion, involvement and being productive and the colour blue represents serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty. Overall, the logo aptly represents what the university aspires for.
