YASHWANTRAO CHAVAN MAHARASHTRA OPEN UNIVERSITY |
Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) was established on July 1, 1989. The red emblem of the university has six upward facing triangles arranged as an inverse pyramid symbolises a peacock. Peacock is the ‘vahana’ or vehicle of Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of learning, knowledge and wisdom. The circular strokes originating from the structure denotes dynamism, openness and propagation of knowledge. The emblem means the spread of knowledge far and wide as stated in its motto. Its motto in Marathi ‘ज्ञानगंगा घरोघरी’ meaning ‘Ganges of Knowledge from House to House’ is inscribed below the motif. Reddish brown is a colour that represents nature because brown is the colour of the soil. Red is often seen as solid, much like the earth and it is a colour often associated with resilience, dependability, security and safety.
