UTTAR PRADESH UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

The Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (UPUMS), formerly U.P. Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, is a medical school, hospital and medical research university located at Saifai in the Etawah District of Uttar Pradesh, India through Government of Uttar Pradesh under Act 15 of 2016. The circular emblem of the university has a yellow border which carries its name in English and Devanagari. Inside the circle the caduceus or the staff of Hermes, depicted as a stick entwined by two snakes, holding a traditional lamp crested by the Ashoka Chakra and supported by the laurels on both sides and an open book at the bottom. The laurels are further supported by its motto in Sanskrit ‘सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः’ meaning ‘May All be Happy May All be Healthy’. The staff of Hermes represents the medical profession, the traditional lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; Ashoka Chakra denotes the nation and the open book denotes knowledge and wisdom.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.

ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES JODHPUR All India Institute of Medical Sciences Jodhpur (AIIMS Jodhpur) is one of the six new AIIMS established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) with the aim of correcting regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attaining self sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education. Its circular insignia in gold and blue has the traditional symbol of the Caduceus to represent medicine. This symbol derives from Hermes or Mercury, the winged messenger and a staff intertwined by two snakes. It is crested by its motto in Sanskrit ‘सर्वे सन्तु निरमयाः’, meaning ‘Let them all be Free of Illness’ and below this it is supported by a pair of laurels. This is ensconced by a circular border on which its name is written in Devnagari and English.
