UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
The University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) was established in 1971 as a Constituent College of University of Delhi. The emblem of the university college has the Staff of Hermes or Caduceus, depicted as a stick entwined by two snakes representing the medical profession; a 'poorna kumbh' topped with lotus symbolising life at its finest, abundance and God; lotus signifying purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; a pair of elephants signifying power, strength, unity and wisdom and water signifying life, motion and fertility. All these motifs are topped by a banner inscribed with its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ meaning ‘From Darkness, Lead me to Light’. This banner and all the motifs are placed on a plaque. At the bottom on a banner, the name of the college is written and below that its location and year of establishment is written.

UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU The University of Jammu (UoJ) came into existence in 1969 through the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir. The circular emblem of the university has an open book supporting a lotus with a background of mountains and surmounted by atomic structure. These are ensconced by a yellow circular border which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ on one side and its name in Kashmiri on the other side. SANT GAHIRA GURU VISHWAVIDYALAYA The circular emblem of Sant Gahira Guru Vishwavidyalaya (SGCG), formerly known a s Sarguja University has a circular border in orange and green and has its name, place and motto inscribed in Devanagari and supported by a pair of tribal ornaments. The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’.
