Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari, (VSKU) is a public university established in 2010 by the Government of Karnataka in Ballari district of Karnataka. The emblem of the university has the stone chariot of Hampi built by Krishnadevaraya supported by an open book and crested by the statue of Sri Krishnadevaraya ensconced by the circle of glowing sun with sixteen rays. The sun is further encircled by a border, which carries the name of the university in Kannada and English. At the bottom on a red pedestal decorated by a red ribbon and supported by a pair of traditional lamps its motto in Sanskrit ‘दियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्’ and Kannada ‘ಜ್ಞಾನ ದಾಸೋಹ’ meaning ‘Inspiring the Mind’ are written. An open book denotes knowledge and wisdom; sun denotes life, warmth, growth and energy and the traditional lamp denotes light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity.
