JAWAHARLAL NEHRU ARCHITECTURE AND FINE ARTS UNIVERSITY

The emblem of Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) has a pink rose with a pair of pink leaves ensconced by a gear wheel. These are circumscribed by a border on which the name and palace of the university is inscribed. At the bottom its motto in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is written. Below that its acronym ‘JNAFAU’ is written. The rose is symbolic of Jawaharlal Nehru, who wore a rose on his coat and the gear wheel symbolises interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress and advancement, synchronisation, timing, order, structure, engineering and technology.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
