The insignia of Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication (HJU) was designed by Vinay Jain. It has a sun supporting the acronym of the university and placed in a brown square. The sun denotes light and removes darkness and it reaches out like the arms of the media and communication bringing the light of information to the society. The brown or terracotta background implies being rooted and earthy. The sun is also a motif used in the architecture of Jaipur, where the university is located. The name of the university is written in Devanagari and English above and below the pictorial respectively.

The shield crested by the Ashoka Pillar with a the statue of a lion and a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘सर्वोपरि कर्म’ (2.44, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Work is Above Everything Else’. The initials of the college ‘MIT’ is written in the middle of the shield. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the Ashoka Pillar symbolises the heritage, culture and the architecture of the place; and the other motifs refer to the subject disciplines of science, engineering and technology.

This features the map of the State of Jharkhand placed inside a gear wheel supported by a traditional lamp and surmounted by its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ is placed inside a white circle. The circle is ensconced by a red border with blue outline, which carries its name in Devanagari and English. The gear wheel symbolises interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the traditional lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity and the colour red symbolises passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration.
