The Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) emblem symbolises the emergence of life forms. It depicts a healthy bud with eleven leaves growing from a seed in a test tube placed in a decorative pot. The seed represents knowledge and the soil in the test tube represents science and technology. The bud produces plants and animals for human sustenance. The name of the university circumscribes the bud and at the bottom on a panel a pig, a goat and a cattle are shown.

Engineering education in BHU started in 1919 with the establishment of Banaras Engineering College (BENCO).
