The emblem of Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University (JRSU) has an orange circle which holds a shield topped by a pair of crossed swords. The shield holds the motifs of an open book supporting a traditional lamp. The circle is surmounted by its name and supported by a pair of laurels. At the bottom, on a banner its motto in Sanskrit ‘ज्ञानम् विज्ञान सहितं’ meaning ‘Knowledge with Science’ is inscribed. The shield symbolises protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the open book denotes education, learning, knowledge and wisdom; the traditional lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the crossed swords denote stands for safety, protection, readiness to overcome difficulties, power, valiance and cooperation and the laurels denote ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
