The insignia of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has Staff of Caduceus or the Hermes’ Staff with a pair of entwined serpents and wings symbolising medicine and medical practice topped with a torch of flame, supported by the letter ‘V’ denoting veterinary science and all these are placed above a Mollweide projection of globe. This composition is ensconced by a red border on which its name and year of establishment are inscribed. Below this elliptical seal on a blue banner its motto ‘Knowledge for Service’ is written. The colour red symbolises passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration; the colour blue symbolises serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty, The torch with flame symbolises hope, life, truth, enlightenment and regenerative power and the globe denotes education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness.

PARAVANI The Paravani, Mayil, Mayura or the peacock is the vahana or vehicle of the Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves.
