The emblem of F.S. University (FSU) has a pictorial and a word mark on its right. The pictorial has a brown shield bearing its name in yellow ochre, a nib, an open book and a banner on it in the middle inscribed with its motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्याधनं सर्वधनं प्रधानम्’ meaning ‘Knowledge is the Supreme Wealth’. Below the shield a pair of laurels are placed. The name of the university is written in brown, white and black. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the nib of a pen symbolises freedom, intelligence, creativity, professionalism, determination and diligence; the open book symbolises education, knowledge, learning and wisdom; the laurels mean ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the colour brown denotes and white denotes purity, innocence, perfection, peace, new beginnings, loyalty and joy.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
