The emblem of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Yellareddyugudem, Nalgonda features the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam ensconced by a gear wheel. This is circumscribed by a cyan circular border with traditional designs. The name of the university is written around the border in Telugu, Devanagari and Urdu. Another blue and orange border circle bears the name of the university in English. These are surmounted by Ashoka Chakra and supported by a pair of peacocks. Below the circular motif a white banner carries its motto in Telugu ‘సా విద్యా యా విముక్తయే’ (Rishi Parāśara, 1,19.41, Viṣṇu Purāṇa) meaning ‘Knowledge is one that Liberates’. The banner is supported by a pair of corns. Above the banner and at the bottom of the circular seal a Poorna Kumbha is placed. The dam symbolises the native pride and geography; the gear wheel symbolises interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the Ashoka Chakra is the national emblem; the corns denote food, health, nourishment and wealth; the Poorna Kumbha or Kalasham symbolises the fullness or completeness of life and the peacocks symbolises the national bird, regrowth, rejuvenation, royalty, respect, honour, integrity, beauty, love and passion.
