| NATIONAL FLAG |
The National Flag of India, that is Bharat is also known as Tiranga is a horizontal tricolour of deep saffron (kesari) at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion. The ratio of width of the flag to its length is two to three. A navy-blue wheel, the Ashoka Chakra, is at the centre of the white band. The saffron represents courage, sacrifice, and renunciation, reflecting the spirit of those who fought for India's independence; the white represents peace, honesty, and purity, and is also symbolic of light and the path of truth; and the green signifies fertility, growth, and auspiciousness, reflecting India's agricultural base and its connection with nature. The Ashoka Chakra or the navy-blue wheel with 24 spokes is taken from the Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath. It represents the ‘Wheel of Dharma’ (Law) and signifies righteousness, progress, and the movement of time. The design of the National Flag was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 22 July 1947.
