DR. Y.S.R. UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

The Government of Andhra Pradesh renamed Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences as Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences by amending Sub Section 2 of Section 1 of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Act, 2022. The Act No.19 of 2022 was published in extraordinary issue of the in Andhra Pradesh Gazette No.19 Part-IV-B, dt.28.10.2022. The university is the brainchild of Padmashree Dr. Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao a legendary figure and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. It was inaugurated in 1986. The emblem of the university has a motif of the epic ‘Samudra Manthan’ or ‘churning of the ocean’ using Mount Meru as the staff and Vasuki - the king of snakes who adorns the neck of Shiva - as the rope, the Devas and the Asuras churning the milky ocean. The Dhanvatari who emerged from the kerning brought a pot of nectar which is kept in a pot above. The Dhanvantari is the medical doctor and the nectar is the medicines given by them. Its motto in Telugu ‘వైద్యో నారాయణో హరిః’ meaning ‘The Physician is a Manifestation of Lord Narayana’ is placed above the motif. THese are supported by a pair of laurels. At the bottom the nameof the university is written in Telugu and the year of its formation is written below.

DR. SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE UNIVERSITY The emblem of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) is placed on a 32 petal lotus flower spread in a circle. The motifs of a triangle intersecting a circle houses an open book on which the year of its establishment is written. The national emblem Ashoka Chakra surmounts these motifs and a pair of laurels support them. All these are placed in a circle and the circle has a border with red outlines.
