GAUHATI UNIVERSITY

Gauhati University is one of the premier institutions of higher education in Northeast India was established on January 26, 1948. Great Sanskrit scholar, Indologist and philanthropist Krishna Kanta Handiqui was the founder Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University. The green and yellow circular emblem of the university standing on a pedestal has a trishul which embodies power and strength to ward off evil forces, which is also in the hands of Maa Kamakhya and the National Emblem. The dark green circular border bears the name of the name of the university.The motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया साधयेत’ meaning ‘Achievement through Learning by Knowledge’ is written on a yellow banner placed across the emblem. The emblem was designed by T. Mukherjee, a textile designer of Ahmedabad.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.

GIRIDIH COLLEGE, GIRIDIH The emblem of Giridih College, Giridih features a circle with four panels housing the motifs of a banyan tree, rising sun, a miner with a pickaxe and a range of mountains supported by a pair of stalks of grain. The name of the college and its motto are written in Devanagari on a circular border around the motifs. The motto reads in Sanskrit ‘सरस्वती श्रुतिमहती महीयताम्’ (Abhigyanshakuntalam, Mahakavi Kalidas) meaning ‘May Saraswathi Bless Increasing Glory of the Scholars’. This assemblage is placed in a sprocket wheel , which symbolises technology and science.
