Swaminarayan University was sponsored by Shree Swaminarayan Vishvamangal Gurukul Trust, Kalol and became functional with the assumption of charge by the first vice chancellor on May 20, 2022. The insignia of the university yellow, red and purple colours has a shield support by a lion on each side, crested by a mortarboard hat and erected on a curved banner bearing its name. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘सर्व विद्या अधिपतये’ meaning ‘O Lord of All Knowledge’ is placed at the bottom. The shield is divided into four parts and one has a map of India placed on a pedestal, its opposite one with an open book and other two diagonal parts have a glowing ‘S’ and ‘U’ depicted as ‘Tilak Chandlo' of Swaminarayan sect. The ‘ESTD 2022’ is placed on both sides of the shield above the lions. The mortarboard hat or oxford cap meant for graduates meaning the graduation of students in their chosen subjects signifies achievement; an open book signifies knowledge and wisdom; a map of India signifies the relevance of the university to the whole of India; a pair of lions signifies courage, confidence and pride. The colour yellow symbolises warmth, speed and light; red symbolises passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration and purple signifies power, authority, opulence, luxury, creativity and imagination.
