National Institute of Technology Hamirpur (NITH) is one of the thirty-one NITs of the country, which came into existence on August 7, 1986 as Regional Engineering College (REC), a joint and cooperative enterprise of the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh. The status of Deemed University and upgraded to National Institute of Technology. Its circular emblem has a gear wheel in it. This holds a map of Himachal Pradesh with images of Himalayas forming the backdrop, with electrical transmission lines and a manufacturing plant at the foothill and a lake in the foreground. In the border its name, place and motto is written. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘उद्यमेन हि सिद्धयान्ति कार्याणि न मनोरथैः’ meaning ‘No Substitute for Hard Work’
