In August 12, 2017, Kannada actor and director Upendra Rao, known for his realism in movie direction, announced that he will stepping into administration and governance by starting his own political party under a socialist concept Prajaakeeya (people-centric) as opposed to Rajakeeya. Since Uttama Prajaakeeya Party is a dedicated voter’s party, here voters are the leaders. It aims for accountability, responsibility and transparency in public life. The party’s election symbol is autorickshaw, a mode of transportation of common man.
