The emblem of Government Thiruvarur Medical College and Hospital (TMCTVR) features the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘गतिष्यत’ which translates to ‘will move forward’. The motifs are ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name of the college and its year of establishment. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession.

The logo of the university has two strokes of orange and green forming the shape of ‘U’ in tricolour and has a ‘Ashoka Chakra’ at its top. This is supported by an open book on which images of an atom and a burning candle are depicted. The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’.
