The ‘check’ mark refers to affirmation, correctness, completion, and approval, originating from the Latin 'v' for veritas (truth) and evolving from quick notations on ancient tablets to its modern use. The mortarboard or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage.
