The emblem of Government Arts and Science College, Kuthalam (GASC Kuthalam) features a shield housing the motifs of a stack of books and a ‘kuthuvilakku’ (a traditional lamp) a hand holding a ‘karlakattai’ (a wooden club) and the gopuram of Sri Sri Arumbanna Vanamulai Nayaki Uthavedeeswarar Temple. The shield is crested by the Dharma Chakra supported by a pair of peacocks. Below the shield, on a green banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘கற்றனைத்தூறும் அறிவு’ (Thiruvalluvar, 396, Thirukkural) meaning ‘Knowledge Grows As Much As One Learns’ is inscribed. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; The lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the books refer to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom; the karlakattai symbolises sports and fitness; the chakra is the wheel of Dharma; the peacocks symbolise regrowth, rejuvenation, royalty, respect, honour, integrity, beauty, love and passion; and the gopuram symbolises the places’s history, heritage and divine blessings and guidance.

The central motifs of the winged Staff of Caduceus entwined by a pair of serpents crested with a flaming torch, supported by an open book and a pair of laurels replace the Lion Capital; and the name, place and motto of the college replace the name of the State. The motto of the college in Sanskrit is ‘विद्यया विन्दते अमृतम्’ (Mantra 2.4, Kenopanishad), which translates to ‘Immortality Through Knowledge’. The Staff of Caduceus symbolises medicine and medical profession; the book symbolises the accumulation and dissemination of medical knowledge and the academic foundation of the institution; the torch with flame is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; and the laurels are symbols, which represent victory, honour and academic excellence.

MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL URDU UNIVERSITY Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament in 1998. The logo of the university has two strokes of orange and green forming the shape of ‘U’ in tricolour and has a ‘Ashoka Chakra’ at its top. This is supported by an open book on which images of an atom and a burning candle are depicted. Its name is written in Urdu atop the emblem on a banner; written in Devanagari on a banner above the logo and in English at its bottom. This visually represents the core technical branches taught at the polytechnic level, such as Electronics, Telecommunication and architectural drafting. The motifs of a draftsman's T-square and a winged arrow in the seal refer to structural design, craftsmanship and vocational specialisation; and symbolises progression, upward mobility and the ambition of women breaking barriers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. THE PARACHUTE REGIMENT The first Indian airborne formation was the 50 Independent Parachute Brigade raised on October 29, 1941 with 151 British, 152 Indian and 153 Gurkha Parachute Battalions and other support units. The Indian Parachute Regiment was established on March 1, 1945, as the regiment to which is Indian and Gurkha parachute battalions would belong. 152nd Indian Parachute Bn was split to form the 1st Parachute Bn consisting of Hindu troops and the Muslims troops forming the 4th Para Bn, while 153rd and 154th Gurkha Para Bns being renamed the 2nd and 3rd Battalions respectively. Four independent parachute companies were also raised to complete the regiment, one each as a defence company for the divisional HQ and the brigade HQs and named thus. Its Regimental Centre is Bangalore with the training establishment at Agra. Regimental insignia is an open parachute with wings spread out and a dagger placed upright, between the wingsand its motto is ‘Shatrujeet’ (The Conqueror).
