A pair of tigers support the emblem on the sides. The globe denotes education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness; the sheaf of paddy refers to agriculture; the satellite and computer refer to science and technology; the book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom; and the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity. The place name Manalmedu is associated with a specific legend involving a tiger, Lord Shiva, and a unique Shivalinga with tiger footprints. The Shivalinga in Sri Naganathar temple associated with Manalmedu is described as being Swayambu (self-manifested) and features the distinct footprints of a tiger on it. The tigers represent the temple and its deity and the blessings and guidance.
