GOVERNMENT ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE, SATTUR (GASC SATTUR)

The emblem of Government Arts and Science College, Sattur (GASC Sattur) features a green shield on a yellow circle housing the motifs of a nib of a pen on an open book, a water reservoir, a pair of abstract humans emerging from an open book and match stocks manufacturing units, surmounted by abn open book and crested by a mortarboard hat. The circle is ensconced by a green circular border inscribed with the name of the place. Below the seal, on a green banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘ஒழுக்கம் கல்வி உழைப்பு உயர்வு’ meaning ‘Discipline Education Hard Work Advancement’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the nib of a pen refers to the nib manufacturing industry of the place; the books refer to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom; the reservoir refers to the Irukkankudi Reservoir on Vaippar river; the humans refer to the beneficiaries of the college; and manufacturing units refer to the printing presses, fireworks, match box and matchstick manufacturing units of Sattur; and the mortarboard hat or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage.
