Below the seal, on a banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘முயற்சி திருவினை ஆக்கும்’ (616, Thirukkural, Thiruvalluvar) meaning ‘Effort Increases A Person's Wealth’ is inscribed. The lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the globe denotes education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness; the Thirukkural symbolises a comprehensive guide to life through three main pillars of Aram (virtue and morality), Porul (wealth and politics), and Inbam (love and pleasure).

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla.
