The emblem of Government Medical College and Hospital, Ramanathapuram (GMCHR) features the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents crested by a pair of bol of cotton. The Staff is ensconced by a decorative brown circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. Below the seal, on a red banner, the motto of the college ‘Service to Humanity’ is written. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession; the cotton bols represent the major agricultural produce of the region; and the colour brown signifies earthiness, simplicity, stability, humility, warmth, reliability, endurance, timelessness and tradition.

The gearwheel is ensconced by a circular border with brown outlines inscribed with the name and place of the college. The seal is supported by a pair of laurels. The motto of the college in Sanskrit in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita), which translates to ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is written on a green banner with red outlines. UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU The University of Jammu (UoJ) came into existence in 1969 through the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir. The circular emblem of the university has an open book supporting a lotus with a background of mountains and surmounted by atomic structure.
