The emblem of Government Villupuram Medical College and Hospital (GVMC) features the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents ensconced by a golden oval border inscribed with the motto of the college ‘Rural Health Nation’s Wealth’. Below the seal, on a golden banner the initials of the college ‘GVMC’ is written. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession.

MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL URDU UNIVERSITY Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament in 1998. The logo of the university has two strokes of orange and green forming the shape of ‘U’ in tricolour and has a ‘Ashoka Chakra’ at its top. This is supported by an open book on which images of an atom and a burning candle are depicted. GOVERNMENT POLYTECHNIC, RANCHI (GP RANCHI) The purple emblem of Government Polytechnic, Ranchi (GP Ranchi) features a gearwheel housing the motifs of a factory with chimneys, mining towers and trees. The motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita), which translates to ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is written on a banner placed below the gearwheel. The gearwheel is a universal symbol of mechanical engineering, industrial progress and automation; the factory symbolises manufacturing, manufacturing plants, and heavy engineering production. It honors the rich mineral and industrial baseline of the Ranchi and Jharkhand regions; the mining towers represent core infrastructure sectors such as civil engineering, mining and oil extraction; and the trees are silhouettes of local trees, recognising the natural landscape of Jharkhand (which translates to ‘The Land of Forests’.

The shield is surmounted by a banner inscribed with the name and place of the college and supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘विद्या ददाति विनयात् श्रेयस्’ (Narayan Pandit, 6, Hitopadesha) meaning ‘Education Makes one Humble’. The motifs in the oval refer to the subject disciplines of engineering and technology being taught in the college; and the shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery.

Falcon, the mascot of RGPV, holding a scroll of a diploma certificate in its beak, portrays the engineers graduating from RGPV, with their infinite capabilities and specialised skills. The falcon holding a pen in one of its claws, symbolises the power of expression. Its armour is the manifestation of modern technology. Equipped with comprehensive knowledge and professional abilities, an engineer graduating from RGPV shall soar above and govern the universe with wisdom and creative ability. The paddy grasped by the other claw represents the productivity and consequent prosperity resulting from the efforts of the graduates in their profession. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘प्रज्ञानं ब्रह्म’ meaning ‘Wisdom is the Brahman’ is  inscribed on a red banner below the emblem.

UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU The University of Jammu (UoJ) came into existence in 1969 through the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir. The circular emblem of the university has an open book supporting a lotus with a background of mountains and surmounted by atomic structure. These are ensconced by a yellow circular border which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ on one side and its name in Kashmiri on the other side. The name of the university is written on A banner at the bottom. The open book denotes education, knowledge and wisdom; the lotus symbolises purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the mountains represent the Himalayan Mountains and the atomic structure denotes science and science education.
