The emblem of Government Arts and Science College, Aruppukottai (GASCAPK) features a circle housing the motifs of a traditional lamp, a group of students playing kabaddi and hockey, a handloom with a weaver, a farmer tilling the field and an open book with all surrounded by a pair of laurels. The motifs are ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college and supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘மெய்ப்பொருள் கல்வி’ ((22, Kondraivendhan, Avvaiyar) meaning ‘True Wealth is Education’. The name of the place is written at the bottom. The lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the players refer to sports and games; the weaver refers to the local craftspersons; the farmer refers to agriculture.

DIRECTORATE OF FORENSIC SCIENCE SERVICES During 1983, the then Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet (SAC-C) under the overall guidance of an Expert Committee chaired by Prof. M. M. Sharma, FRS, recommended that the laboratories in Delhi, Calcutta and Hyderabad must be developed as Science and Technology institutions, functioning in an autonomous fashion. Accordingly, the Government of India declared the forensic science Institutions, as Science and Technology institutions. In the first phase, the three Central Forensic Science Laboratories at Calcutta, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh were restructured into six scientific division viz. Biology, Ballistics, Chemistry, Explosive, Physics and Toxicology. UNIVERSITY OF KASHMIR The University of Jammu and Kashmir was founded in 1948. In the year 1969 it was bifurcated into University of Kashmir (UoK) at Srinagar and University of Jammu at Jammu.
