The emblem of Government Medical College Ariyalur (GMC Ariyalur) features a circle housing an image of of the Gangaikondacholisvarar Temple (Gangaikondacholapuram) supported the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents. The motifs are ensconced by a decorative circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. Below the seal, on a banner, the motto of the college in Tamil is inscribed. The temple refers to the historical heritage of the place; the staff with snakes has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession; and the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication.

VALLABHACHARYA TILAK The tilak of Vallbhacharyas is said to consist of two white lines down the forehead, forming a half-circle at its base and a white dot between them. Vallabhacharya (1479–1531 CE) was a devotional philosopher, who founded the Pushti sect in India, following the philosophy of ‘Shuddha Advaita’ (Pure Non-dualism). THE JAMMU & KASHMIR LIGHT INFANTRY India's first Light Infantry was born out of the peoples' response in 1947, to the invasion of Kashmir by Pakistan. In the difficult days of the invasion, the population formed local defence groups. These were later organised into militias responsible for specific sectors, e.g., Leh, Nubra, Jammu, Punch, etc. Over a period, these were grouped into the Militia battalions. Two of these were later converted into the Ladakh Scouts. The militia battalions operated with skill on the Line of Control (LoC) and in the 1971 Indo-Pak War earned three battle honours. In 1972, the militia battalions were brought on par with the army units, and in 1976 designated the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI). The 8th JAK LI earned great honour by capturing a Pakistani post at 21,000 feet at the Siachen Glacier in 1987.
