The orange colour emblem of Jeppiaar Engineering College (JEC) features a pentagon housing the motifs of a gearwheel, a satellite dish antenna, a computer, a pair of electrical transmission towers, a handshake, and a structural bridge ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. The motto of the college ‘Respect Education Manners Involvement’ is inscribed on a banner placed below the seal. The pentagon symbolises harmony, elements (earth, air, fire, water, spirit), protection, perfection, and humanity; the gearwheel denotes technology, engineering, interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the handshake symbolises to goodwill, agreement, or farewell, representing trust, respect, and equality; and the other motifs refer to different disciplines of engineering and technology. The colour orange symbolises energy, vitality, creativity, inspiration, joy and happiness.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
