The emblem of Government Medical College, Tiruppur (GMCT) features the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents placed on a brown circle with golden outlines. The Staff is ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. The staff with snakes has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession. The colour brown signifies earthiness, simplicity, stability, humility, warmth, reliability, endurance, timelessness and tradition; and gold signifies wealth, prosperity, power, prestige and achievement.

The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’. UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU The University of Jammu (UoJ) came into existence in 1969 through the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir. The circular emblem of the university has an open book supporting a lotus with a background of mountains and surmounted by atomic structure.
