The first Indian Air Force unit raised was No.1 Squadron, Indian Air Force on April 1, 1933. No.1 Squadron Air Force was raised on April 1, 1933 at Drigh Road, Karachi and equipped with 04 Westland Wapiti aircraft. Its motto is ‘Ekta Mein Shakti’ meaning ‘Strength in Unity’. Its insignia has a tiger in the centre of a circle which is topped by India’s national emblem and golden border at the bottom with its motto in Devanagari. This squadron is nicknamed as ‘Tigers’.
