The emblem of Women’s Christian College, Nagercoil (WCC Nagercoil) features a yellow shield inscribed with a red cross surrounded by the motifs of a pigeon, sunrise over sea waters, a ‘kuthuvilakku’ (a traditional lamp), a woman chaffing rice, a lotus and a sheaf of paddy crests. The motto of the college ‘Enlightened We Serve’ and its year of inception of the college are written on a banner placed below the shield. The initials and the name of the college are written on the right of the shield. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the pigeon symbolises peace, love, fidelity and prosperity; the sunrise on sea refers to the local Bay of Bengal; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the woman chaffing rice symbolises fertility, prosperity, and the role of the woman as a nurturing force; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; and the sheaf of paddy crests refer to agriculture, prosperity and sustenance.
