The blue logo of Annai Veilankanni's College For Women (AVCW) features a pictorial of a shield housing the motifs of a cross, the façade of Velankannai Church, a cross, a palmyrah tree and an open book. The shield is crested by a five pointed star and supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college ‘Faith Endeavour Power’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the church refers to divine blessings and guidance; the Cross is a primary symbol of Christianity; the palmyra tree represents the local tree known for various produces; the book denotes knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; and the star symbolises protection, balance, and human connection to the elements.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
