The emblem of VP Muthiah Pillai Meenakshi Ammal Arts and Science College for Women (VPMMASCW) features an image of Goddess Andal (8th–9th century) is the only female among the 12 South Indian Alvar saints, revered as an incarnation of Bhudevi (Earth Goddess) and a consort of Lord Vishnu, which represents the history and heritage of the place. The image is supported by a pair of buildings and ensconced by a gearwheel inscribed with the name of the managing Trust. The name and address of the college is written at the bottom. The gearwheel symbolises technology, engineering, interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; and the Goddess refers to divine grace, blessings and guidance.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. WESTERN AIR COMMAND The origin of the Western Air Command can be traced back to the nascent years of independent India, when the various formations of the Air Force were organised into two groups. On July 22, 1949 the No 1 Operational Group was re-designated as the Operational Command. The Command assumed its present name of Headquarters Western Air Command on June 10, 1963.
