The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the book refers to education, knowledge, learning and wisdom; the flame symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the students with mortarboard hat or or Oxford hat denote educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; the globe refers to education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness; and the medal refers to achievement, success and victory.

DIRECTORATE OF FORENSIC SCIENCE SERVICES During 1983, the then Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet (SAC-C) under the overall guidance of an Expert Committee chaired by Prof. M. M. Sharma, FRS, recommended that the laboratories in Delhi, Calcutta and Hyderabad must be developed as Science and Technology institutions, functioning in an autonomous fashion. CENTRAL WATER COMMISSION The circular seal of the Central Water Commission has a five petalled flower with a water dam, a powerline on sea water, a borewell pump, plants of cereal and a high tension transmission line each placed inside a petal. The flower is placed in an orange circle and this assembly is ensconced by a yellow circular border, on which its name in Devanagari and English and its motto in Sanskrit ‘आपो ज्योति रसोऽमृतम’ meaning ‘May That Awakens Our Intelligence’ are inscribed. The motifs inside the petals refer to the applications of water in daily life of society.
