The emblem of Rajah Serfoji Government College (Autonomous) (RSGC) features the gopuram of Sri Brahadeeswara Temple of Thanjavur supported by a palmleaf manuscript, a veena and a lotus, ensconced by a pair of laurels on a brown border. Below the seal on a banner the motto of the college in Tamil ‘மெய்ப்பொருள் காண்பதறிவு’ (Thiruvalluvar, 423, Thirukkural) meaning ‘Knowledge is Seeing the True Meaning of Anything’. The temple gopuram refers to the heritage and history and divine blessings and grace; the palmleaf manuscripts refer to tradition, to education, knowledge, learning and wisdom; the veena refers to arts, culture, heritage and history; and the lotus purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty.
