GOVERNMENT THIRUMAGAL MILLS COLLEGE, GUDIYATHAM (GTCE)

The shield shaped emblem of Government Thirumagal Mills College, Gudiyatham (GTCE) features the motifs of a ‘kutjuvilakku’ (a traditional lamp), an open book, the gopuram of the temple, a pair of elephants, a mountain, and a lotus. Below the shield, on a banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘கற்றனைத்து ஊறும் அறிவு’ (396, Thirukkural, Thiruvalluvar) meaning ‘Knowledge Will Flow to the Extent of the Education Acquired by the People’ is inscribed. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the gopuram refers to the history and heritage of the locale and divine blessings and guidance; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the elephants refer to the University of Madras and signify power, strength, unity and wisdom; the scenery depicts the location; and the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty.
